Hey everyone! How's everyone doing? To tell you the truth, I am currently pretty busy with things at the moment; finishing up my thesis as well as planning for a vacation. And on top of that, my main website Nekonette.com has been down for several weeks. T_T I've contacted my host (reseller) about it and apparently it is an issue with her host (Hostgator). My host has tried to get Hostgator to fix the problem but seems like Hostgator is not doing anything about it. I even contacted Hostgator myself and the reply I got was something along this line: "Oh we don't deal with customers of resellers directly. The customers go to the resellers for problem-solving and we (Hostgator) provide support for the resellers." Right, but the way things are going now, it looks like they're not even helping my host (the reseller). >.>

Anyway, now that we're on the topic of web hosting, I'd like to shift your attention to Web Hosting Secret Revealed. It's a website that helps you to know whatever it is you need to find a good web host. You'll find the beginner's guide very easy to read and the contents are divided into sections and short paragraphs (nobody wants to read big chunky texts). Plus, the texts are written in clear and concise manner (some accompanied with pictures) so you won't have any problem trying to understand the terms and such.
On the website you can also find resources that you may need for your website. There are freebies such as Wordpress plugins (Wordpress fan here!) and web icons are available, also there are tons of discount codes and links for web hosting! Awesommmmmeeeee!! (Sorry for the exclamation mark abuse)
Are you interested to try out web hosting now (no, Blogger doesn't count) but unsure which one of hundreds of web hosting companies to choose? Well lucky for you WHSR also has written reviews on some of the web hosts out there (I'd love to see that website writes reviews on big hosts like Namecheap, 1and1, GoDaddy, etc) as well as a guide on how to choose one.
For those of you wanting to know more about web marketing, WHSR also has a guide for that and it'll help to point you to the right direction on things like SEO, social media marketing, etc. Oh did I mention about the site's blog? It's full of informative contents which are useful for any website, plus in them you'll also find links to web design resources.

A couple of weeks ago I requested a paid blog review from Eyriqazz.com and this morning I received the review. You can read the entire review in Eyriqazz.com.
As a response, here are my comments regarding the review (so this is like a review of the review):
I completely agree with the reviewer regarding the header. It's pretty plain and therefore it makes the header look empty. Shall need to work on that one.
Also, the reviewer stated that I only have one entry per page. Let me make this clear everyone, I suppose this stems from my preference on keeping the page as simple as possible. I do believe that certain blogs are suitable to have multiple entries per page but there are also blogs that look great with just one entry on the homepage. Anyway, I've decided to take the review into account so there are now 2 entries per page.
Regarding the length of entries, reviewer mentioned that sometimes it is slightly lengthy. However, I DO expect it to be so, since this is a personal blog after all. Plus, I have articles in this blog too so it makes sense for the entries to be lengthy. Though I agree that I may need to include pictures in between the paragraphs.
I don't quite follow the "Wow factor" bit. What is a "wow factor" anyway? It would be really nice and helpful if the reviewer can provide some examples to this "wow factor".
About the chatbox, I can see the point of the reviewer. The chatbox takes the bulk of visitors' attention. It might be a good idea to remove it from the blog. Hopefully that will encourage people to read and comment on the entries instead.
Interaction with readers. Not sure what kind of interaction is needed here since I already have questions posted in the entries for the readers to answer. I even went around promoting the blog but no one seemed to actually bother to want to leave comments on the blog. Is it because I post the entries in English? If that is so, so here's the chance for you to help me out:
What can I do to attract more readers/viewers to this blog?
Nevertheless, I would like to thank the owner of Eyriqazz.com for his honest and straight-forward review and I will try my best to incorporate some of the suggestions into the blog in the future.Labels: feedback, review

GET YOUR BLOG REVIEWED BY ME HERE
A lot of people seem to have a misconception on what a blog or website review is. A blog/website review is when a blog or website is subjected to be analysed and rated by someone (or even a group of people). Usually a blog review (or reviews on blogs/websites) should include a few things such as these:
First impressionsNavigationCoding and validationContentDesignBrowser compatibilityErrorsOverall opinion
However, these days I find people doing segments (or episode) on blog review. To be frank, I was curious as to what this 'segment' is supposed to entail. Apparently these so-called 'blog review segments' are no more than where a blog owner compiles a list of other blogs (usually submitted by readers) and merely visit those blogs. Of course, there are also blog owners who compile a list and then post on their blogs a line or two about the blogs they visit. However this still does not qualify as a blog review. How can anyone review a blog and sum up the entire review in one short sentence such as "Your blog is neat and pretty"? How does that qualify as a review? Might as well change the name to 'blog-viewing segment' instead of 'blog review segment'. The two words 'view' and 'review' are not the same, mind you. The Free Dictionary gives the definition (one of the many definitions) of review as: 'To examine with an eye to criticism or correction' or 'To look over, study, or examine again.'
According to Wisegeek, there are three types of blog review, the first one is a "type that rates blogs - [is] designed to help users find the best blogs of the type they are seeking and/or avoid blogs that are poorly written, not kept up, or overrated." So this type is where reviewers will pick blogs and give their opinions about the blogs.
The second type is the blog of an affiliate marketer. He/she will review products/services and hoping that readers will buy the products through their personal links. Normally this type of reviewers are being paid for their reviews. If that is so the case, reviewers are expected to disclose to their readers the fact that they are being paid for the reviews on the basis of ethical reasons.
The last type is the blog reviews done by a critic. For example, a blog owner may have the passion for reading, hence the person will review the books that he/she have read and make analytical comments about the book contents. This, of course, is not restricted to books only. It can be reviews on movies, food, etc.
Here are a few examples of blog reviews which I have done in the past:
http://amalina.org/review/dustywings.php
http://amalina.org/review/cheapstranger.php
http://amalina.org/review/revenant.php
Where can you get your blogs/websites to be reviewed?
Some individuals (such as me) offer website/blog review services on their blogs/websites but there are also communities (such as Rev.iew.me)which exist to provide these services.
Lastly, a question for all of you:
Before reading this article, what did you understand by blog review?

After a debate with myself, I've somewhat decided to open up a website review (or more commonly referred to as web page review (WPR)) section. I know I mentioned about how I feel that I'm not up to doing reviews but in the end, one's gotta start somewhere. I'm pretty confident with my web design abilities (otherwise I won't be opening up a shop!) and I feel this should be a good way to sharpen my own skills. But anyway, I won't be opening it on this site, since I've already loaded it with articles and tutorials so the reviews would be done on Amalina.org, since the website is practically empty apart from the occasional blog posts on back-end updates.
So if you want to get your website reviewed, head over to Amalina.org now.
And oh, I've written a new article (which I chose to post on Nekonette.com instead) on the tips to building better websites.Labels: review

I've seen a lot of personal website owners offering services such as website reviews. Personally I feel this is a good approach by website owners to help other website owners to improve their web design skills. However, most of these website review sites only focus on general things like design, graphics/ layouts and content and tend to neglect other aspects.
Here is a general breakdown of what I think a website review site should include in their reviews:
- First impressions
- Navigation
- Coding and validation
- Content
- Design
- Browser compatibility
- Errors
- Overall opinion
Of course different people will have different ideas on how the reviews should be done and I'm positive not everyone will agree with what I have mentioned above. But just be reminded that a website review is not merely about reviewing what you can see from your browser, but also what's behind the layout and all the tangible things that come with it as well. And a reviewer must be professional and impartial enough. The reviewers should actually point out the errors or discrepancies in the website and not simply sugar-coating their words by saying things like, "Oh I love your layout" or "Your blends look great!" or "Your CSS is really unique". (Especially the last one, WTF is that supposed to mean?)
Previously I've been asked if I would do reviews on websites and I've politely declined on the basis of I didn't see myself as a qualified person to review other people's websites. And to this day I still feel that way. Back in 2009 I've posted a short blog on website reviews and the comments I received actually conveyed my points even more clearly than I did. I especially like the comments by Kersheys and Amber. Both of them mentioned that a reviewer should at least have sufficient knowledge in the subject before going into reviewing.
Of course, I don't mean to hold you back from doing reviews because if you've got what it takes to write good and constructive reviews, by all means do go ahead. :) And before you decide to bash me for saying all this, take a moment and ponder the words.
But if you still want me to review your website, by all means leave a message/email and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I will try my best to give you a professional review.Labels: article, review
