Personally use the bidding/shopping service Buyee.jp (owned and run by Tenso.com) for the YJA. The great thing about Buyee is that, you can do the bidding on your own, which is awesome if you have a set limit of budget or the auction for item you want is about to end and you don’t want to waste the time contacting a shopping service. You can view the website in Japanese, English or Chinese.

Before entering any auctions, you have to open an account on Buyee (you don’t have to open a YJA account). Once you’re registered with Buyee, you can start bidding on any items on YJA except items that are prohibited by Buyee or from buyers with very low ratings. You can look for the items you want to bid on directly from the YJA website (just go to the item’s individual page and then click on the blue banner on the top left that says something like, ‘Overseas customers click here to bid this item’) or, you can search for the item using Buyee search engine.

There are fees for using this service, so it is very important to read the Usage Guide on the Buyee website. For each winning bid, there is a 200yen payment transfer fee. This amount is fixed. Another one is the service fee. If your item costs less than 5000yen, the fee is 500yen. If it is more than 5000yen, the service fee will be 10% of the item price. So basically, if you won a bid for a 3000yen dress, the amount you have to pay would be 3000yen + 200yen transfer fee + 500yen service fee. Another awesome thing about Buyee is that, you will get email notifications every time someone else outbids you, which removes the need to check the page every minute. :) You will also be notified if you win the auction.
If you didn’t win, you won’t be charged anything.
Buyee accept either credit cards or Paypal for bidding and shipping.

Once the item has been sent to Buyee warehouse, you will be notified of its arrival. Buyee takes at least one day to process the item and ship it to you after you pay for shipping. For example, if your item arrives on Monday and you make the payment for it to be shipped to you on the same day, Buyee will process your request and ship the item on the following day (Tuesday).

If you bought more than 1 item, you will have the option to consolidate your items as well as the option to add protective packaging. Each service costs at least 500yen, I think. For three or more items, consolidating fee is 1000yen. Also, Buyee will take one extra day to consolidate the items, so if you pay for shipping and consolidating and/or extra packaging service on Monday, consolidating will be done on Tuesday, and shipping will be pushed to Wednesday.

The shipping fee consists of domestic shipping (from seller to Buyee warehouse) + international shipping (from Buyee to you). For the domestic shipping, the seller will usually list on the item’s page how much the shipping will cost. Check Buyee fee guide for international shipping.

Basically there are two sets of payments you need to be aware of:
1st payment: Item price + 200yen transfer fee + 500yen / 10% of item price service fee (whichever applies)
2nd payment: Domestic shipping + International shipping (optional: consolidating fee, protective packaging fee)

I think that’s all I can cover. Full details on bidding and fees can be found on the Buyee website. They’re all easy to understand, I promise.

it seems buyee works really good, did you use jpbidding?i find this yahoo japan bidding service site recently.

My recent experience with BUYEE.JP TENSO japanese buying service is awful. What can I say about them is only they are fraud scammers. I received damaged items I bought on Yahoo auction using their service, they haven't provided any additional packaging besides seller's one, however I paid them for additional protective packaging. Also they damaged my item during consolidation, sent it to me in such condition. When I asked them for partial refund they claimed that I have not proved their fault.
So, I DO NOT RECOMMEND using their service to anyone!
