Tutorial: Adding Disqus comment count to your blog

Blogged by: Kitty on Tuesday, September 27, 2011   Facebook comments: comments

If you're deciding to use a different commenting system other than the Blogger's built-in comment system, you can actually opt for Disqus. Now, I won't be explaining how to integrate it into your blog because another website has done that. I'm here just to show how to add the comment counts.

So let's get started. (For those who are simply looking for a way to add the comment count skip to Step 3)

Step 1
You must already have an account on Disqus. To sign up, click here.

Step 2
Go to this website and for a step by step tutorial on how to integrate Disqus commenting system into your blog.

Step 3
Copy the following code just before the </body> tag.

<script type="text/javascript">
/* * * CONFIGURATION VARIABLES: EDIT BEFORE PASTING INTO YOUR WEBPAGE * * */
var disqus_shortname = 'example'; // required: replace example with your forum shortname

/* * * DON'T EDIT BELOW THIS LINE * * */
(function () {
var s = document.createElement('script'); s.async = true;
s.type = 'text/javascript';
s.src = 'http://' + disqus_shortname + '.disqus.com/count.js';
(document.getElementsByTagName('HEAD')[0] || document.getElementsByTagName('BODY')[0]).appendChild(s);
}());
</script>

Don't forget to change the one in bold with your Disqus shortname.

Save and refresh your website. The comment count should be there.

How i find my disqus short name??

Hello Vivek Nath.R, after you've signed in into your account, you can find your Disqus shortname on this page http://docs.disqus.com/developers/universal/

Thanks kity, thanx a lot. Now i find my disqus short name.

Thank-you kity, this was very helpful. I like Disqus, it's such a useful tool!

thanks for the information:)

It worked, but I wonder why it says "x comments and 0 reactions" (x being the number of comments). Can I change it to "x comments"? Don't know why it distinguishes between comments and reactions...

I just entered a comment but already found out the answer...

It worked -- thank you!

Do you know how I can get the comment link when I'm strictly on my homepage? Disqus code removed that option so all you see in my post footer is my author name and the time it was posted. I don't want people who land on my homepage to think I can't accept comments. Thank you!

I offer designing and re-designing of Classic Blogger templates. Examples of my design can be found on my portfolio website.

The basic rate for a design starts from $25 USD. The rate is based on the complexity of the design. The more elaborate the design is, the higher the price is.

Send me an email via the contact form and state clearly how you want your design to be. This includes colour scheme, layout (with or without sidebar, number of columns, etc), any extra features, etc.

Your email should be in this format:

Preferred payment method: Paypal/Moneybookers/Payza/Bank transfer to Baiduri bank

I shall respond to your email within 3 (three) days. Your order will be placed into a Waiting Queue as orders are processed on a first come, first serve basis.

Payment methods

Payment has to be made to either by PayPal, or Moneybookers.

However, if you choose to pay via (international) bank transfer, be aware that you may be charged for the transfer service.

Other important information

Throughout the designing process, I may need to refer back to you for questions/opinions so do check your email frequently. This is to ensure the design can be done as soon as possible.

Depending on the design, your template make take up to over 1 (one) week to finish. You will be informed once the template is done.

I will send you an email requesting for the payment after the template is done. Once the payment is received, I will email you the complete template along with the necessary files.

All of my designs/templates will come with a credit section. This section must be left intact and you may not remove nor alter them. Resources that come with the designs/templates may not be redistributed or reproduced.
